Woman gives birth to baby in ambulance on Mugga Way

A Canberra mother gave birth to her third child on Saturday afternoon.

While that was not very unusual, her baby arrived much faster than expected.

Paramedics from Tuggeranong were called to assist the woman, who had started to feel contractions only one minute apart.

She had hoped to make it to the hospital, which was just 20 minutes away, but her baby moved quickly.

The child was safely delivered with the help of paramedics in an ambulance on the side of Mugga Way.

A statement from the Emergency Services Agency said mother and child were in good health and were now in the safe hands of hospital staff.

"Congratulations to the family - we wish you all the happiness in the world," the agency said.
