Woman getting her first haircut in five years to raise money for Gorgie City Farm

A "big chop" is set to raise hundreds of pounds for Gorgie City Farm, as an Edinburgh woman encourages donors to decide how much of her 23-inch-long hair is cut off.

Helen Syme chose a novel way to raise money for the community farm - if she reaches her target she will have her first haircut in five years.

Once her crowdfunding page reaches £750, she will choose one donor at random to pick how much is cut off.

If the donor chooses more than 12 inches to be cut off the hair will go to the Little Princess Trust, who provide free real hair wigs to children and young people.

Gorgie City Farm are looking for a 'can do' caretaker to join the team

Helen, who works as a fundraising officer for the farm, says: "It's been five years since I last went for the Big Chop and there have been too many dodgy styles before and since.

"This is your chance to decide on my new style."

You can contribute via her JustGiving page here.

Gorgie City Farm has been running for 40 years, and offers a free countryside learning experience fr visitors and families.
