A woman has gate-crashed her ex-husband’s wedding to attack him in scenes that have been described by Indian media as straight out of Bollywood.
The groom, Vishal Kumar Sonu, was beaten in the middle of the road in Ludhiana, India, outside the wedding venue by his ex-wife and members of her family.
The woman, named only as Rakhi, claims Mr Sonu, 42, is getting married for the second time without divorcing her.
When the police arrived, Mr Sonu said he had divorced his first wife and had the paperwork to prove it, according to the Hindustan Times.
Rakhi stormed into the wedding venue and started arguing with Mr Sonu about the wedding. When he claimed he did not know who she was, Rakhi and her family members began the assault.
The pair married 14 years ago and have a 13-year-old son together. As their relationship strained Rakhi started living with her parents, her brother claimed.
He also accused Mr Sonu of physically abusing his sister over money as he was unemployed.
“We took Rakhi back to our home and set a condition before Sonu that they will send her back only after he will start earning. Sonu agreed to this and used to visit Rakhi often.
“We never expected that he will solemnise a second marriage. We came to know about his marriage two days ago, when someone showed us the wedding invitation,” Rakhi’s brother said.
It is not yet clear which of the two accounts is accurate.
