Woman furious after being given parking fine when husband in hospital despite heartfelt plea to warden

The wife of a hospitalised Marine is furious after being given a parking ticket - despite leaving a heartfelt note for the parking warden.

Holly Fraser, 32, lives apart from her husband, Lee, but went to visit him on the weekend, just as he suffered a medical episode.

Lee has ongoing back problems caused by a prolapsed disc and had to go to hospital for treatment, so Holly drove him in his car, Plymouth Live reports .

But to do so she had to leave her car in Plymouth, Devon, where she didn't have a permit to park - so she left a note explaining the situation.

But when the pair got back from hospital, Holly was shocked to see a parking fine slapped on her car.

Holly said she usually finds a free space further away from Lee's home but due to the rush they were in to get to hospital the car had to be abandoned.

She said: "I know they have a job to do but I honestly thought someone may have had a heart today... clearly not.

"For the sake of three whole hours when you need a permit to park out the front of his property, I left my car so I could be with my husband.

"I don't live at this address and I don't have a permit. I know I shouldn't have parked there but I just thought someone would have been kind.

"He [Lee] asked me to bring his car as it was easier for mobility reasons. I feel so upset, if I've got to pay it I will."

Holly said that Lee is "tough" but the whole experience has been "horrible".

The note Holly left for the parking warden read: "I am fully aware I do not have a permit to park here.

"But My husband is a serving member of the military and is currently at Derriford Hospital.

"He lives at [address in Ford Park]. I know I'm more than likely going to get a ticket but I couldn't find anywhere else to park. And being at the hospital is far more important.

"I can't even say when I'll be back.

Lee has been in the Royal Marine's for more than 10 years and has served in Afghanistan and Somalia.

Holly said: "I hate pulling out the forces card but it would be nice if someone said, 'you know what, you've done a good job'.

"You'd think Plymouth being a massive military city that someone would have a heart.

"Clearly not as one of their own who is a serving Royal Marine and has been in Derriford hospital nearly 48 hours. Now needing more back surgery."

Holly has now appealed the parking charge and is waiting for an outcome.

A Plymouth City Council spokesperson said: “If someone feels they have been issued with a penalty charge notice unfairly or in error they can submit an appeal.

"Details on how to do this are enclosed with the notice."
