Woman fuming at dog's bizarre £250 haircut that left Shih Tzu 'half bald'

A dog owner was left fuming when a grooming mix up left her beloved Shih Tzu half bald and "looking a mess" - despite forking out £250 for the treatment.

Leanne Mearns, 27 from Bebington , said her dog Gizmo is so terrified of being groomed that she had to book him a full shave at the vets to be done when he was sedated.

Gizmo was booked in to have all his fur shaved off at Broadway Vets in Heswall on March 13, a procedure which cost his owners £250.

Leanne, who works in a McColl's corner shop , said she was happy to pay the money for it because she "loves her dogs more than anything".

However, when she went to pick Gizmo up she was left "gobsmacked" at his appearance - as half of his body had been shaved bald and the other half was cut down 'unevenly'.

The blunder appears to have come from a misunderstanding over Leanne's wish to have Gizmo completely shaved all over - having even bought mini jumpers to keep her bald pet warm.

Broadway Vets in Heswall said they were unable to comment on specific details due to client confidentiality, but stated that they had offered a solution in this case.

Leanne, who also owns a Lhasa Apso called Isobel, said: "We just want the dog to look normal. It's bang out of order - it's not fair on him."

She added: "My poor dog looks a mess and he knows it himself."

Explaining the situation, she said: "I love my dogs more than anything and was 100% fine with paying £250 for a fur cut but what we got back was a joke.

"£250 is a lot of money for one fur cut and as any dog lover will know, a groom is not just a one-time thing. Does this mean every time my fur baby needs grooming I will have to pay this much for a cut this bad?"

Broadway Vets emailed Leanne on Friday to offer her a corrective haircut for Gizmo to have all of his hair removed, free of charge, as a gesture of good will.

However, she has refused to take her pet back to the vets after the first cut left her angry and upset.
