Woman fumes as family lumped her with £300 dinner bill and refused to pay it back

A woman has decided to stop speaking to her family after they left her to pay an enormous £300 bill in a restaurant and have still failed to pay her back. The person took to Reddit to explain that her family of five had recently decided to have a catch up having not seen each other in a while so they set on a restaurant to meet in.

She explained: "My boyfriend, 20, and I ,19, have been together for 6 months now and yet my family hasn't met him so I thought I should bring him along.

"We were about to leave when my family called us, they said that we were late and that we needed to hurry. We ended up arriving there 10 minutes later and realised that my family had not only ordered food without me but didn't even noticed I had arrived."

When the pair sat down they ordered their food but the rest of the family decided not to stay to watch them eat their meals.

"They didn't feel like waiting, so 5 minutes later they ended up leaving," she said.

"I tried to get them to stay but they didn't want to. They simply said they'd transfer the money for the food to me and just left. I didn't have much money so I was hoping that the bill wasn't too expensive."

However, when the bill came it was much more expensive than she thought and she wandered what the rest of her family must have ordered.

She said: "When we saw the cost of my boyfriend and I had completely blanked. I didn't know how it costed this much. The total was £331. I was shocked."

The woman was not convinced her bank account would cover the cost so was thankful when the payment went through.

But the rest of her family have not been to forthcoming in paying her back.

She said: "2 weeks later, I still hadn't gotten the money for the food, so here is when I finally stood up and did something.

"I made a group with the people in my family. I then said this. You guys are horrible, you should be ashamed of yourselves, I want the money for the food. And now. They didn't end up paying, so I wasn't gonna do anything about it. Instead I cut off all my communication of them."

Two years on from the event and she has not spoken to or heard from her family and is now engaged to the boyfriend.

In response, many have been quick to support the author of the post with one person saying: "Your family could have easily reached out to you… and considering you were 19 at the time, I feel like that was a lot to expect you to be able to come up with that amount of money."

While another said: "You are justified in not wanting to contact them. They do not seem to appreciate you."
