Woman freed from car and taken to hospital after crash in Wythenshawe

A woman was freed from a car and taken to hospital after a crash in Wythenshawe.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision on Simonsway, at the junction with Greenwood Road, at around 5.10pm on Wednesday (March 11).

One woman was trapped in a car, the fire service confirmed.

She was taken to hospital in an ambulance after fire crews freed her.

The woman is not believed to have suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 5.08pm.

"Two fire engines from Wythenshawe and a technical response unit from Ashton attended a road traffic collision on the junction of Simonsway and Greenwood Road.

"Two vehicles were involved.

"One was person was trapped so we assessed the casualty.

"The female was lifted from the vehicle and helped into a North West Ambulance Service vehicle and taken to hospital.

"We were at the scene for 30 minutes."

There were reports of queueing traffic in the area and the Simonsway was blocked off for some time.

The road has since reopened.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "At around 4.55pm today (Wednesday 11 March 2020) police were called to reports of a collision on Simonsway in Wythenshawe involving two cars.

"A woman received medical treatment after emergency services removed her from a vehicle she was trapped inside.

"She has not suffered any life changing or threatening injuries.

"Simonsway to Portway has now been reopened after it was closed temporarily."
