Woman found slumped in driving seat with vodka during coronavirus lockdown

Vodka was seized from a woman found sleeping in the driver's seat of a car during the coronavirus lockdown.

The 49-year-old was found by police officers called to reports a vehicle had been travelling on the wrong side of the road in Knowsley, yesterday afternoon.

The patrol that responded discovered a woman slumped in a vehicle parked on Waterpark Drive in Stockbridge Village.

Two bottles of vodka were seized from inside the car.

An image, released by police, showed the female lying across the driver's seat with a bottle alongside her.

Her face was blurred on the picture.

Officers from the Knowsley branch of Merseyside Police wrote on Twitter that the woman was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit.

The incident came less than 24 hours after a woman was found swerving around the roads of Sefton Park during the coronavirus lockdown.

Kayleigh Perkins was spotted in her Nissan Juke stationary in the middle of the road, "sideways on" across two lanes, last night.

But when police approached the 33-year-old's vehicle, at around 10.10pm on Thursday, March 26, she drove off along Sefton Park Road.

On Friday, Liverpool Magistrates' Court heard Perkins, of Ellencliff Drive, Anfield, suddenly took a sharp turn right, towards the park itself.

Out of concern for other road users, an officer in a marked car forced Perkins to stop and asked her to confirm her details, which she did.

She was found to have been more than twice the drink driving limit.

Perkins admitted driving with excess alcohol - her second conviction for drink driving.

She was handed six months' supervision by the Probation Service and a five-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

A six-week home curfew, from 8pm to 8am daily, was imposed and she was banned from driving for three years.
