Woman found her car on fire when she returned from night out at the bingo

A woman returned from a night out to discover her car had gone up in flames.

The victim had left her vehicle in Megan Street in Cwmdu, Swansea, while she went for a night out at the bingo.

As she walked up the street on her return, she suddenly became aware of the fire, before realising to her horror it was her own car, a Renault Clio, which was going up in flames.

She said she was walking up the road and looking at her phone when she saw the flames and a car nearby doing a three-point turn.

“I didn’t think it was my car at first, and then I realised it was. I was going to get some water but then thought it might be an electrical fault," she said.

“There were a lot of people on the street at the time, including a bunch of people at the top of the road.

“I was petrified. I didn’t know if someone had a vendetta against me, or if it was just yobs or a fault with the car.

“I use the car to get to work, so I’m going to have to get lifts or taxis instead while I sort everything out”.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On Monday, January 27, at 9.32pm, crews from Swansea Central attended a vehicle fire in Megan Street, Cwmdu, Swansea.

"One car was badly damaged by the fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and one breathing apparatus.

"The cause of the fire was deliberate."

"Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence 2000032932"
