Woman found dying inside bus stop in Newton Mearns

Police have launched an investigation after a woman was found dying at dawn in a bus stop in a leafy suburb.

Officers rushed to the halt in , in East Renfrewshire on .

The woman was taken to hospital in nearby , but later died.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed a 46-year-old woman was found slumped on the pavement at 7.15am.

It is not known whether she had been there all night as the discovery was made just as it was getting light.

The police spokesman added:” Police Scotland was made aware of concern for a 46-year-old woman found in a bus stop on Harvie Avenue in Newton Mearns around 7.15am on Tuesday, 15 October.

“The woman was taken to where she later died.

“Her death is being treated as unexplained, although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
