Woman found dead on railway tracks after police called to station

A woman was found dead on the tracks of a railway station in an incident which led to Liverpool and Warrington trains being halted.

Police were called to Eccles station in Salford at 7.25pm on Monday, May 29, following reports of a casualty on the tracks. All trains coming in and out of Liverpool were brought to a halt while emergency services worked at the scene.

British Transport Police has confirmed a woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

National Rail tweeted on Monday: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Warrington Bank Quay / Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester. To allow them to safely carry out their work, all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled or delayed."

A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers were called to Eccles railway station at 7.25pm on 29 May following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
