Woman found dead on Glasgow footpath as cops launch probe

A woman has been found dead on a Glasgow footpath, sparking a massive police investigation.

The grim discovery was made close to Mainhill Drive in Baillieston, in the city's east end, Tuesday morning.

Police raced to the public footpath, close to Mainhill Drive, when the alarm was raised just after 8.30am.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her identity is unknown at this stage.

Police are currently treating the death as unexplained.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland told our sister title, Glasgow Live : "We received a report about the body of a woman found on a public footpath at Mainhill Drive in Glasgow around 8.40am on Tuesday, January 5.

"She has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course."
