Woman found dead in alley as police negotiation with man on ledge

Police are negotiating with a man who has perched himself on the awning of a high-rise balcony above where a woman's body was discovered in an alleyway, just 100 metres from one of Sydney's busiest train stations.

The woman's body was found by a pedestrian in the alley off Brown Street near the Chatswood train station about 6:30am.

There are a number of businesses and apartments along the street and the area has been cordoned off by police as they investigate the woman's death and negotiate with the man.

Police have been seen standing on the balcony talking to the man.

A police crime scene tent was set up over the body of the woman.

At times the man has dangled his legs over the ledge of the apartment or peered down looking toward the ground.
