Sydney woman found dead, partner injured in suspected domestic incident

The Penshurst unit block where a woman's body was found.

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 67-year-old woman at a unit in Sydney's south.

Emergency services were called to the Penshurst block this morning after concerns were raised about the welfare of a couple.

Police and paramedics found the woman dead, along with her injured 62-year-old partner, at the Victoria Street address.

It is believed the victim may have died from a morphine overdose, while neighbours reported hearing screaming.

The man was rushed in an ambulance to St George Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The alarm was raised by a "regular visitor", according to investigators who believe the incident is domestic violence related.

Detective Superintendent Julian Griffiths said this was the first time police had been called to the Penshurst unit.

"We believe it may be domestic related," he said.

No-one has been charged over the death, but the victim's partner remains under police guard in hospital.

"He's conscious and speaking to police, and is still under police guard," Detective Superintendent Griffiths said.

Forensic police have collected bags of evidence after spending hours searching the building.
