NOIDA: A 47-year-old woman, who was found dead near the staircase leading to her first-floor apartment in a Sector 137 society on May 11, had submitted a rape complaint against a neighbour in Uttarakhand four days earlier, police here have learnt.
The woman, who had been missing since May 9, was found dead behind some shrubbery near an entrance to her building a couple of days later. An initial probe hinted at suicide, but the autopsy report mentioned she had suffered a blow on the chest that led to blood clotting and eventually a haemorrhage.
On Monday, DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander told TOI the family had initially filed a missing complaint on May 9. Later, they told cops the woman had gone missing on May 5 as well and was traced to Ranikhet in Uttarakhand and subsequently brought home. They had also claimed that the woman was depressed for some time.
“We found she had taken a bus to Ranikhet from the Anand Vihar ISBT on May 5 and had booked a hotel and stayed overnight. On May 7, she approached the local police and submitted a complaint on charges of rape against a resident of her society,” the DCP said.
The Uttarakhand police had subsequently registered a zero FIR on her complaint, the Noida cops said. Later, they had called the woman’s husband, who reached Ranikhet on May 8 and brought her back to Noida around 4.30am on May 9. The woman went missing soon after.
Police told TOI that in her complaint, the woman had accused a resident of the society of raping her in March. “We are investigating the case from all angles and have recorded the statements of some residents as well. So far, it seems the woman did not mention the alleged sexual assault to anyone in her family or neighbours. Some notes have also been recovered from her mobile phone and we are ascertaining the veracity of the claims,” the DCP added.
