A woman who was found dead inside a flat was described as an angel by loved ones who said she "deserved better".
After the 54-year-old was discovered by police tributes began flooding in for the woman, whom friends named as Helen.
Touching messages were shared on social media about her after police and paramedics were called to the flat on Twickenham Drive in Leasowe on Monday morning.
Shortly before 11am officers then arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder and took him into custody.
A police cordon was erected around the building as forensic officers were seen coming and going from the property throughout the day.
On Monday night, after police confirmed they had launched a murder investigation, people who knew her posted on Facebook about how sad they were over her death.
Jourden Hankin said: "RIP. You will be missed by us all.
"Rest in peace and spread your angel wings as far as you can.
"Because you are free."
Another friend, Sammii Sam also said: "So heartbreaking, you deserved better angel.
"Rest in peace."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO that the woman and the man arrested were known to each other.
In a statement, the force added: "A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of a woman in Wirral this afternoon, Monday, 1 February.
"At around 10.40am, emergency services were called to an address in Twickenham Drive, Leasowe, where they found the body of a woman in her 50s. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"A short time later, officers arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He has been taken for questioning as enquiries continue.

"An investigation is underway and a post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death. The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time. "
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Nilsen said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation however, at this time, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this tragic incident.
“We can confirm that the victim and man arrested were known to each other.
