Police are investigating the death of a woman found Thursday in a burning car in Andersonville that had been parked in the same location for weeks.
Officers responded to reports of a “vehicle explosion” at 12:48 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Farragut Avenue and found the body of a woman in her 20s in the back seat of the parked vehicle, according to Chicago police.
The fire was extinguished and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Police and fire officials said it was not immediately clear whether the death was related to the fire. The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released autopsy results or her name.
Witnesses told investigators they heard two “loud noises” before noticing the fire and calling 911, a police spokeswoman said.
The car, which did not smell of accelerant after the fire, had been parked at the same location since Oct. 31 and had California plates, police said. It was a 2019 model gray 4-door.
Further details were not available. Area North detectives are conducting a death investigation.
