Woman found dead by Scots cops who raced to reports of attack

A woman has died after an alleged serious assault in North Lanarkshire which saw a man arrested.

The 54-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene in Torrance Avenue, Airdrie.

Cops were called to the street after the alarm was raised at around 10.45am on Sunday.

A 60-year-old man has been arrested and police said the death is being treated as an “isolated incident”.

Several police vehicles and officers attended in the street.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We were made aware of a woman who had allegedly been seriously assaulted within a property on Torrance Avenue, Airdrie, at around 10.45am on Sunday.

“The 54-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 60-year-old man has been arrested. It is being treated as an isolated incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
