A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 30s was found dead in east London.

Officers were called to East Ferry Road, in Isle of Dogs, at about 6.20pm on Saturday after a “concern for the welfare” of the person living there.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was found dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

Scotland Yard said the suspect was known to the victim.

Police urged anyone who saw anything of concern or out of place at the property yesterday to contact them.

Police are also investigating as murder the suspected strangulation of a 50-year-old woman in nearby Poplar.

Officers, visiting Hobday Street on December 30 in response to concerns for her welfare, initially treated the case as unexplained.

But a post-mortem examination on Friday provisionally found she died from a compression to the neck.

Police are yet to make an arrest over the 50-year-old's death.
