Woman found barefoot and covered in blood at Tesco petrol station

Custody looks like the outcome for a man who admitted a serious assault on his partner.

James Dent appeared at Bristol Crown Court charged with a wounding with intent.

The 26-year-old, of Fishponds Road, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of causing grievous bodily harm on July 16 and it was accepted by the Crown.

Sarah Regan, prosecuting, told the court: "He was charged with a Section 18. (wounding with intent)

"Sentencing guidelines have been explained to the complainant and she has sensibly agreed to this course."

Miss Regan asked for sentence to be adjourned in order for the complainant to make a victim personal statement.

She said that according to sentencing guidelines it was a greater harm case.

Judge Martin Picton requested a pre-sentence report from the probation service and adjourned sentence until November 2.

The judge told the court: "Mr Dent must understand custody looks like the inevitable outcome.

"The sooner he knows what his position will be, and for how long, the better."

The victim was seen, barefoot and covered in blood, at the Tesco filling station in Eastville at 4.40am on July 16.

A police inquiry which ensued established she had been attacked with a knife and beaten and sustained injuries including a broken nose and cut above her eyebrow which needed stitches.
