Woman forced to run from train after man sent weird texts to her from opposite seat

A frightened woman claims a stranger kept sending her menacing text messages as they travelled on a train.

The woman, understood to be in her 20s, was sitting alone on a train travelling from Sheffield to Hull on Sunday, August 8 when a man sitting opposite allegedly sent the string of 11 messages.

In the last message sent, he asked the woman if she lived alone, HullLive reports.

A friend confirmed to Hull Live that the woman, from Hull, was sitting at a table seat by herself at around 3.30pm and the man approached her. He then allegedly kept asking her for her mobile phone number.

Irritated by his behaviour, it is claimed the woman eventually gave him the number and he started sending her the creepy text messages while he was sitting close to her on the other side of their table.

The last message read: "Do you stay alone". He also sent several other odd messages, one read: "I just keep staring at you."

The man also allegedly tried to hold her hand and kept asking her a series of questions.

Throughout the journey, the man continued to send her messages nearly every minute.

The few times she did reply she responded bluntly in an attempt to deter him from texting her.

One message said: "You make my heart melt." She replied: "Thanks I guess."

The woman was said to be unsettled by the messages (Submitted)

The woman got off the train at Hull Paragon Interchange and the man allegedly followed. It is claimed she ran as fast as she could to get away from him.

British Transport Police said the incident had not been reported to them, but encouraged any victims of similar incidents to report such incidents to them by texting 61016, calling 0800 40 50 40 or using the force's online tool.
