Woman forced into car boot in Ballarat kidnapping, police say

Police say the offenders forced the woman to a stop in a suburban street.

Police are investigating a reported kidnapping of a woman in Ballarat, west of Melbourne.

Detectives from the Ballarat crime investigation unit say the 19-year-old was driving in the suburb of Mount Pleasant on Tuesday night when she pulled over on Humffray Street South.

It's understood the woman became involved in an incident with a group of people from a light-coloured sedan.

Police say the offenders, one male and two females, forced the woman into the boot of their vehicle and she was driven around for about 10 minutes before she was released.

Police say they were called about 10 o'clock last night.

Other emergency services, including ambulance and the Country Fire Authority, said they received initial reports of the incident about 9:15pm.

No safety concerns for public

Paramedics transported the victim to Ballarat Base Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.

It's understood the parties know each other and police say there are no safety concerns for the general public.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or might have dashcam footage from the area around the time, to contact Crime Stoppers.

Humffray Street South in Ballarat runs from a dense residential area to the Yarrowee Plantation reserve.

Some Humffray Street South residents said they heard emergency services responding.

Kevin Trezise said he was surprised by the news.

"I've got four girls of my own, and something like that never happens down here," he said.

"Around the top of the street there is a fair bit of crime, but (not) down here."
