Scot flips out at train station attacking woman who confronted her pregnant sister over online spat

A raging woman rained blows on a woman who accosted her heavily pregnant sister at Paisley’s Gilmour Street Station.

Chantelle Heron, 22, flipped out after Dionne Collins confronted her sister Courtney Heron, who was eight months pregnant, over a Facebook spat.

Heron leapt from the bench they had been sitting on and pulled Ms Collins down by her hair before repeatedly punching and kicking her in a savage attack.

Heron, formerly of Maple Drive, Johnstone, but now living in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of assaulting Ms Collins during the rammy on October 16, 2019.

Defence agent Anthony Boland said his client, who has racked up a significant record of previous convictions, was admitting responsibility for assaulting Ms Collins because her sister had come under attack.

He said: “She knows it is a serious matter and goes beyond her acting in self defence.

“There had been a disagreement with the complainer and her sister, who was eight months pregnant at the time.

“She reacted in that way at the time and accepts that she went too far.”

The lawyer added that Heron has since moved away from Renfrewshire to distance herself from her trouble-strewn background, adding she is “no stranger to the criminal justice system” and recently “gave evidence in a High Court trial”.

He said: “She has found work in a manufacturing plant and hopes to be kept on once her three-month trial period is up. Her position is now much more stable and I would ask the court to consider a non-custodial disposal in its options which are available.”

Sheriff Tom McCartney said he could have sent her to custody given the severity of the offence and her record of previous convictions.

But he spared her jail, telling her: “You are now a woman of 22 and are no longer a young girl. There are lot of new indications. You have managed to get a job, you have changed your address and are looking at stability. However, time will tell and this is very much up to you.”

He handed her one year’s mandatory supervision by the local authority and ordered to perform 75 hours of unpaid work for the benefit of the community.
