Every workplace has its own dress code - and it is important to respect the rules wherever you work.
But one woman was left outraged after allegedly being fired from her retail job after her boss said she dressed "inappropriately" - despite wearing everyday clothes.
Shocked by her treatment, the retail worker took to TikTok, keen to know if she had been in the wrong. Posting as @queen._of_.spades, she claimed she had been sent home after wearing shorts and a sleeveless top to her job. Showing off her ensemble while explaining what happened, she explained: "They sent me home for dressing inappropriately. Apparently shorts is a no go."
In the comment section, she added: "Not working there anymore! Pretty sure I was fired!" noting that she worked in "a place selling Christmas ornaments."
But the employee struggled to understand the upset over her outfit, as she asked: "Who made shorts to be inappropriate for work? Are they?"
"Tell me. Cause I'm still p****d. Do I have the right to be? Why is being a girl so hard?"
While many people were quick to console the woman, others pointed out shorts are rarely acceptable work attire.
One person wrote: "No shorts is standard in many industries."
Another agreed, writing: "It's not a bad outfit just maybe not work attire for your job. I wouldn't be impressed it's just not work attire maybe if you were in a sporting store or something."
Meanwhile, someone else suggested the shop may have taken issue with the type of shorts the worker chose. "Wear more professional looking shorts instead of gym shorts," they suggested.
A different commenter revealed they were once cautioned for wearing sporting attire to work.
"I got into trouble for warning my yoga /leggings to work they didn’t say anything on them they where just black and I almost lost my job for it," the woman wrote. The video's creator replied: "Ugh, that's so stupid."
