Woman fined $4,135 for alleged Queensland border breach after being pursued by NSW police

A 21-year-old woman has been charged with multiple traffic offences, directed to quarantine, and fined $4,135 for allegedly illegally entering Queensland from New South Wales on Saturday afternoon.

Queensland Police say the woman from Booval, in Ipswich, failed to stop at the M1 vehicle checkpoint.

She allegedly travelled north before colliding with another car at the intersection of Guineas Creek Road and K P McGrath Drive at Elanora on the Gold Coast.

Police responded to the crash and the woman was arrested.

She was entered into hotel quarantine at her own expense.

Prior to entering Queensland, the woman was pursued by New South Wales Police after they received reports of a stolen vehicle travelling on the M1 at Sleepy Hollow.

The vehicle failed to stop when directed by police and a pursuit began.

Police ended the pursuit a short time later after the vehicle illegally entered Queensland.

The woman will face court charged with unlicensed driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Queensland maintains strict border control with most of NSW, despite the southern state this week relaxing some of its coronavirus restrictions.

It reinstated the border bubble with selected NSW local government areas on September 19.
