Woman finds ultra rare Pokemon card worth up to £12,000 in her attic - do you have one?

A woman found a rare Pokemon card while cleaning out her attic - and it’s worth up to £12,000.

Jane McAllister, 32, had forgotten all about her old Pokemon card collection from 20 years ago when she came across them covered in cobwebs in her loft.

Within the collection was a so-called “shadowless” Charizard card, which is much rarer than a regular Charizard card - with one selling for £12,000 on eBay recently.

A “shadowless” Pokemon card is from a much earlier release in the series, and you can usually spot one if your card if the “shadow” border around the image of the Pokemon is missing.

Ms McAllister didn’t believe her cards would be worth a substantial amount until her boyfriend Dave told her to check eBay.

Of course, Pokemon cards will really only be worth what someone is willing to pay for them - and if you put them on an auction site, it’ll sell for the highest bid.

Ms McAllister, who lives in Liverpool, Merseyside, told The Sun : “It was covered in dust and cobwebs but each card has been individually sealed in plastic in the folder so the cards were in good condition.

“I didn’t think anything of it. I certainly didn’t think they could be worth any money. Maybe a few pounds at most.

“Dave told me they could be worth thousands or hundreds of thousands. I couldn’t believe it.”

Ms McAllister has sent the Charizard card off to The Professional Grading Company (PGC) for it to be graded.

A PGC spokesman said: "Finding fairly valuable cards from 20 years ago in the attic is actually pretty common.

"So many people have old cards somewhere that they've forgotten about. Jane's cards were particularly good.”

Separate research from 118 118 Money this week claimed Pokemon cards could be among the rarest items sitting in your loft.

While the average price for cards stands at £69.33, researchers say it isn’t uncommon for the rarest cards to go for £10,000.

The next most valuable items you could have sitting at home are old comic books - for example, Spiderman, Iron Man and The Hulk - with the rarest selling for £8,450.

First edition Harry Potter books, which researchers say could fetch up to £6,800, could also make you a mint.
