Woman finds python eating rat in her toilet during early morning bathroom break

A woman has spoken of her shock after finding a snake and a rat inside her toilet bowl.

Pastry chef Jana Engler was up early to begin work at 4am last Saturday when she discovered the python strangling its prey.

She told Nine News in Australia: "I just stared at it for a while, I was so confused, and I just thought 'what on earth?'"

Mrs Engler said she quickly raced in to wake up her young son.

She added: "I went into his room as said, 'DJ there's a snake in our toilet'.

"He usually hates being woken up so early, but this time was obviously different.

"He was fascinated by it because you could really see the snake eating the rat, it was right in front of us and it didn't seem to mind us watching."

The mum left for work, closing the bathroom door, and when she returned the snake and its dinner were gone.

Mrs Engler previously ran a business in the centre of Cairns, Australia which closed when the street she worked from was shut down for more than a year.

She is hopeful her "toilet snake fame" will bring her new business Jana's Bakehouse some good publicity.

"Maybe this is a blessing in a toilet," she joked, before adding that she hopes the snake doesn't come back.
