Woman finds microwave compartment no one ever cleans

A mum who shares cleaning hacks online has gone viral after revealing a secret microwave compartment that many people didn't know existed.

The TikTok creator regularly shares tips and tricks for cooking, cleaning and everyday 'life hacks'.

One of her most recent 'secret cleaning tips' has been viewed more than two million times, after she showed her followers a hidden compartment most microwaves have.

The @Mamasknowbest TikTok showed a step-by-step guide on how to thoroughly clean the charcoal microwave filter.

Her caption reads: "This is your reminder to change your microwave charcoal filter."

She said: "You're supposed to change the filter every six months. So while I wait for my new one to come, I'm going to just clean this one."

In the video, she removed the top plastic piece from her microwave to uncover a filthy filter area.

She then removed the filter and began to clean it in soapy water.

Using a soapy sponge she went over the microwave and then replaced the charcoal filter once it has been left to soak and was as good as new.

Many of her followers were quick to comment that they were unaware of the filter and that it needed to be cleaned regularly.

One said: "TikTok just continues to tell me how useless I truly am as an adult."

Another added: "I'm tired of TikTok finding more things to clean."

While a third said: "I’m almost positive my apartment management has never changed these and I’m afraid to look"

And a fourth commented: "Been using a microwave 30 years and never ever even knew there was a filter to clean."

It should be noted that not all microwaves have filters and so some confused social media users had this pointed out when they struggled to find it.
