Woman finds dead weasel in Asda salad and gets £100 compensation

A nurse has been offered a £100 voucher from Asda after she found a dead weasel in her salad.

Rifat Ashgar, from Bradford, said she had been left "traumatised" by the experience and that it had left her with nightmares of mice coming out of her mouth.

Asda reportedly told Ms Ashgar the rodent must have been picked up in a field during harvesting and had subsequently not been spotted by anyone in the factory.

Ms Ashgar told the Daily Mail she found the weasel in a 330g box of carrot and sweetcorn salad after noticing a two-inch furry lump in the leaves - and was immediately sick.

"If something like that can through all their processes and checks, it worries me," she said.

"It has completely changed the way I shop now and I can't buy prepared food anymore. I'm having to make it all myself. It was so traumatising."

A spokesperson for Asda told the newspaper: "We work hard to make sure our products are in the best possible condition for our customers to enjoy, so we're very sorry that on this occasion we let Ms Asghar down."

"We would like to reassure our customers that we have strict quality control measures in place for our fresh produce, and since this incident arose in November last year, we have worked with our suppliers and growers to assess these measures and to understand how this could have happened.”

Ms Ashgar said the incident had changed the way she shops now and she’ll now be preparing food by herself from now on.
