Woman finds 'beautiful' creature washed up on Crosby Beach

Beach goers were left saddened after finding a "beautiful" creature that had died on Crosby beach.

Veronica Parratt came across the animal during a walk along the sand yesterday (Tuesday).

Posting on Facebook, she asked: "Anyone able to identify this, found on Crosby beach this morning. Is it a porpoise?"

One woman commented: "So sad, what a beautiful creature", while another said: "Yes it's a porpoise, we reported it to Green Sefton this morning."

Sefton Council's Green team confirmed it is a harbour porpoise, and said fish species often wash up after high tides - which we saw last week.

A Green Sefton spokeswoman told the ECHO : “It is not uncommon for fish species, like this harbour porpoise, to wash up on Sefton’s shorelines particularly after high tides which we experienced at the end of last week.”

In April of this year, beach goers found what they believed to be a baby shark on the beach.

John McFadden was walking on the beach with a friend on April 1, when they came across the creature washed up on the sand.

John, from Ellesmere Port, is a Youtuber with more than 1,200 subscribers.

Footage shows the animal on the sand and you can hear John asking his friend what he thinks it is.

The video was uploaded to John’s Youtube channel, D.K VLOGS, captioned as “Baby shark on Crosby beach”, however the council said the creature actually appeared to be a type of dogfish.
