Woman finds Barry from EastEnders death site at Scottish beauty spot and fans are left in shock

A woman has discovered the death site of EastEnders Barry Evans at a Scottish beauty spot and sent fans into meltdown.

Lynne Robertson, who posted on Facebook group 'Scotland by the Roadside', shared the discover of the memorial plaque at the Rest and be Thankful to mark the place the much-loved character was murdered 16 years ago.

Most soap fans will remember the iconic moment bumbling Barry was pushed over a cliff by callous wife Janine Butcher in the 2004 Hogmanay soap special, but Lynne's post left many Scots stunned to discover the grim death had taken place on our lands.

The post, which showed a picture of a small white sign reading 'Barry from 'EastEnders' DIED HERE 2nd January 2004' on some rocks, sparked both shock and nostalgia in the comments.

One said: "DID NOT KNOW THIS!!!! It's only taken me 16 years to find that out!!! Every day is a school day."

Another added: "Gosh ... And I remembered that scene as soon as I saw that plaque."

One fan wrote: "I never knew this and I actually LIVE in Scotland."

Someone said: "Omg I don't even watch EastEnders but I can mind this."

"Couldn’t ask for a nicer place to go to be fair" another added.

While one commented: "I remember that episode. Bad Janine."

And another paid tribute to the beloved character: "Didn't realise that was where it was filmed. RIP Barry."

Janine and Barry were taking a stroll in the Scottish hills after getting married, but the episode ended in tragedy when she pushed him over the edge after admitting having an affair with Paul Trueman. The car salesman tumbled from a height and smashed his head on a rock below before dying in front of his heartless missus.

Janine later inherited all of his money.
