Woman films her unsettling coronavirus nasal swab test that could save your life

A brave woman moans out in 'unbelievable pain' as she is tested for coronavirus as she warns people to stay indoors.

The unnamed patient filmed a nurse taking the invasive nasal swab at a hospital in Florida.

But she says that although the procedure felt like "they rip your membrane" it was nothing compared to what could happen to you.

The woman urged people to stay at home (@PanamaRedin215/Twitter)

She tweeted: "The worst part is not the test guys, the worst part is dying alone.

"Once you are quarantined in the hospital your family can’t visit.

"If you go into resp failure they alert your family. The next call is to say you’ve passed. No good byes, no hugs, nothing. Plz stay home #corona "

People have been horrified to see the deep nasal swab that it involves sharing the video thousands of times.

The caption with the video reads: "In case you were wondering what the Corona Virus test [is] like."

As she moans, a nurse can be heard saying in the background: "I know sweetheart, I wish there was a better way we could test it."

In a follow-up tweet, the woman, from Panama, Florida, said that the test had come back negative.

Since sharing her video, it has been viewed more than four million times and retweeted 31,500 times by horrified people.

After viewing it, one person joked: "I’m sorry but this looks worse than having the actual virus."

Another begged: "Please just take my blood."

A third person added: "Thanx for posting this hopefully ppl will stay they asses inside. I know I will cause mo ma’am........"

Public Health England say the test is very effective (@PanamaRedin215/Twitter)

And one person admitted the test would make sure they stay at home, as they tweeted: "Thank you so much for sharing this, I know I'll be staying at home after watching this."

For most respiratory viruses, the best place to sample is the back of the nose, because this is where high levels of organisms gather so it is much more reliable than oral sampling.

Guidance from Public Health England (PHE) says samples for coronavirus testing should be taken from the upper respiratory tract.

Called a nasopharyngeal swab, the test requires a medical professional to insert what looks like a long cotton bud as far as it'll go into a persons nose.

After this, the sample is taken it is sent off to a laboratory for testing.

It comes as the Government announced that Brits will soon be able to conduct coronavirus antibody tests at home.

The finger-pricking test will detect whether a person has had the coronavirus test before and since recovered.

The availability of these tests will mean NHS workers currently self-isolating could return to work if they test positive for the antibodies.

Professor Sharon Peacock, director of the national infection service at PHE, told MPs that tests will be available in the "near future".

Professor Peacock added: "Once we are assured that they do work, they will be rolled out into the community.

"Taking the test is a small matter and I anticipate that it will be done by the end of this week.

"In the near future people will be able to order a test that they can test themselves, or go to Boots, or somewhere similar to have their finger prick test done."
