Woman fighting for life after motorbike hits central reservation

A woman is fighting for her life after her motorbike smashed into a central reservation in a sickening crash which closed the road for several hours.

The victim, a 40-year-old from Ellesmere Port was airlifted to hospital and is in a critical but stable condition said police who today urged witnesses to come forward as they try to establish the cause of the smash which closed the road for several hours.

Emergency services were called after the black and red Suzuki motorcycle struck the central reservation on the A54 Kelsall Bypass around eight miles from Chester on Saturday.

Today police made an impassioned plea for people to come forward.

PC Liz Thompson, from the Cheshire Police Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit told Cheshire Live : "The female involved in this collision is currently in a critical condition and we are committed to doing all that we can to establish exactly what took place.
 


"The incident occurred on a busy Saturday afternoon on one of the main routes into Chester and as part of my investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision."

She added: "The same goes for anyone who was driving in the area and believes they have any dashcam footage which may be relevant to the investigation."

The crash, which took place at around 1.25pm, caused the A54 to close for a number of hours and affected traffic heading in and out of Chester .

A Cheshire Police spokesman said the injured woman "sustained serious injuries" and was in "a critical but stable condition".
