Woman fighting for life after fall on Mathew Street say police

A woman has been critically injured after falling on Mathew Street.

Merseyside Police initially reported that an investigation had been launched after a woman was assaulted in the city centre. Officers went to the scene after reports the woman was attacked by another woman, at around 2.50am on Thursday, February 16.

The alleged victim was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury, where she remains in a critical but stable condition. Police have now confirmed that they believe the injury was caused by the woman falling.

Previously a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assault. She has now been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Following enquiries, we believe the woman’s injury in this incident was caused following a fall. She remains in a critical condition in hospital. The 24-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assault has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries."
