Woman fighting for life after collision with a bus in Wallsend

A woman is fighting for life after she was involved in a collision with a bus.

The incident happened at around 6pm on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "For reasons yet to established, a pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a bus on Battle Hill Drive in Wallsend near to the junction with Russell Close."

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department attended the scene alongside emergency services, and the 82 year-old female pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Inspector Paul Allen from the Force’s Motor Patrols department said: "This is a serious collision that has left a lady fighting for her life in hospital.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we are gathering information to build up a picture of how the collision occurred. Specialist officers are supporting family members at this time.

“If you were travelling on Battle Hill Drive at around 6pm this evening – whether that was by foot, in a vehicle or by public transport – and saw what happened, please get in touch.

“We are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or may have dashcam footage to get in touch as soon as possible.”
