Woman fighting for her life in hospital after falling from the cliffs at Marsden

A woman has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after falling from the cliffs at Marsden.

Emergency services were called at 2.05pm to Marsden, near South Shields , and located a woman at the bottom of the cliffs.

She sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the fall and received treatment on scene from paramedics.

The woman was transported by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where she is remains in a stable condition.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 1.59pm to a patient to a patient on the beach at Marsden.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and two Hazardous Area Response Teams to the scene while also requesting assistance from the air ambulance.

"One patient has been transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for further treatment."

Police have confirmed they are making enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At about 2.05pm this afternoon police received a report that a woman had fallen from the cliffs at Marsden.

"Emergency services attended the scene and located a woman at the bottom of the cliffs. She was taken to hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries where she remains in a stable condition.

"Enquiries into the circumstances around the incident are ongoing."
