A woman was killed when she was struck by a vehicle Sunday in north suburban Niles.
Officers responded just before 6 p.m. to the 9400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, where a vehicle had hit 68-year-old Nirmalaben M. Shah, Niles police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Shah, who lived in Des Plaines, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she was pronounced dead at 6:29 p.m., authorities said.
Investigators learned she and a male were crossing Milwaukee from the Golf Mill Mall parking lot but weren’t in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said.
The driver, a 39-year-old Des Plaines man, remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. Impairment and distraction did not appear to be contributing factors in the crash and no charges have been filed.
