A woman was shot to death Saturday in southwest suburb Joliet Township, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.

Tamala Clayton, 44, was found dead in her home about 5:15 a.m. in the 200 block of Reichman Street, the sheriff’s office said.

Witnesses told investigators that someone began pounding on Clayton’s front door about 5 a.m., the sheriff’s office said. As she opened the front door, someone shot Clayton multiple times.

The sheriff’s office is asking neighbors with video surveillance from that morning to contact sheriff’s detectives at 815-727-8574. The investigation is mainly focused on the area from 4th Avenue to Doris between Route 52 and Richards Street.
