A man has been arrested over the death of a woman found at a home in the regional Victorian city of Bendigo along with two uninjured children.

Emergency services were called to the Kangaroo Flat home following reports the 46-year-old woman had been injured just before midnight on Sunday.

She was found unresponsive by officers and taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Two primary school-age children were found uninjured at the home.

A 44-year-old Junortoun man was arrested at a reservoir in Harcourt North about 5am on Monday with air-wing assistance.

He is in hospital and being questioned by police but has not yet been charged.

It is believed the pair knew each other.

A crime scene has been established as homicide squad detectives and major crime scene officers investigate.
