Woman falls from cliff at Scots beauty spot sparking rescue mission

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after plunging from cliffs at a Scots beauty spot.

A major rescue operation was launched as emergency services raced to the scene in Arbroath at around 8.30pm on Thursday evening.

The walker, whose age is unknown, slipped off the coastal path and sustained a leg injury.

The woman was flown to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee (RNLI Arbroath)

Specialist rope access technicians were brought in to reach the stricken woman before being treated by paramedics.

She was safely winched into a waiting Coastguard search and rescue helicopter before being flown to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment.

Both RNLI lifeboats, based in Arbroath, were sent to the scene alongside two teams from HM Coastguard - Angus and Dundee.

Volunteer coxswain/helm, Michael Marr, said: “Callouts like these go to show how easy it is for anyone to get into difficulty whilst out enjoying a walk along our coastline.

“Thankfully with some great teamwork between agencies we were able to execute a safe extraction and we all wish the casualty the best in her recovery.”
