Woman faces court over crash that injured Greens MP

A woman ran a red light and was speeding before crashing into Queensland Greens MP Amy MacMahon's car at a busy Brisbane intersection, police allege.

Rani Paige Lowry, 26, on Thursday appeared in court for the first time after being charged over last month's crash that left Dr MacMahon seriously injured.

Lowry was driving at more than 80km/h in a 60km/h zone and a passenger asked her to slow down before the February 12 incident, police allege.

Witnesses also allegedly saw Lowry's Hyundai i30 run a red light at an intersection before Dr MacMahon's Toyota Prius was struck on the corner of Baines Road and Main Street in Kangaroo Point.

Police allege there were no mechanical faults with the Hyundai.

Dr MacMahon was taken to hospital in a serious condition following the crash.

She has since left hospital but has indicated she will not be returning to state parliament for some time as she recovers from her injuries. 

Lowry was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and appeared at a brief hearing in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

She is on bail, with her matter adjourned until April 22.
