When it comes to getting your nails done, there are a number of different things to think about as you pick a shade. Seasons, holidays and special events can all affect your choice - but one woman has explained why having one specific colour on your nails can make you appear more confident and attractive.
The 'red nail theory' has been sweeping social media in recent weeks, with many women claiming that after getting their nails done red, they've received more romantic attention and generally have been more successful in their lives and jobs.
Nail technician Love Trenna has explored the theory in a TikTok video which has amassed over 45,000 views. She began: "Let me explain to you why 'red nail theory' is true. This is me going off my experience being a nail tech."
The woman then went on to list all the key characteristics of the striking colour, and how they translate into real-life qualities. She continued: "Red is a power colour, it's a bold colour. Say you have an interview coming up, I would wear red. On a woman, it screams confidence."
Red is also apparently more memorable, which is handy if you're looking to stand out from the crowd. Trenna also went on to explain that it's a colour of prosperity, "as well as financial prosperity". "Men give you more compliments sometimes when you do have red nail polish", she added.
Being such a bold colour, some people may tend to shy away from it and go with something more neutral instead, which Trenna understands. She explained: "Sometimes, a lot of women are scared of red because they were taught it was a bad colour growing up."
But then she jokingly added: "It works when you have all 10 fingers, right?" showing off her perfectly painted scarlet talons. The hashtag #rednailtheory on TikTok has over 50million views, with hundreds of women claiming that the secret to success and a happy love life is simply painting your nails red.
In the comment section of Trenna's video, many people were quick to share their own stories of the "red nail theory" having a positive effect on their lives.
One person said: "This happened to me this week. I usually never use red and last week I changed my nails to red and today I got promoted at work, literally just now."
While another said: "I did my nails red yesterday for Halloween clubbing and most girls when hitting on me in front of my husband" alongside a laughing emoji.
And many more were eager to test the theory themselves, as Trenna had asked them to do at the end of her video. One said: "Trying at work tomorrow let’s see what happens," while another added: "I’ll have work interview soon but via phone only. I’ll still try this."
