Woman explains how to make DIY air con at home using milk bottle and ice

Air conditioning is a dream during a heatwave, but many people in the UK are having to cope without it as temperatures exceed 30C this week.

Surviving a heatwave without the wonders of air-con is a struggle, but one woman on TikTok promises you can get a similar effect in 25 seconds using a milk bottle and a fan.

"This trick is gonna be an absolute lifesaver," promises TikTok user @charlottesboutique0 in a popular video. "Because in the UK our bedside fan tends to just blow hot air at us, which is very unhelpful, but try this trick."

Charlotte's tip is to fill an empty milk bottle with water in the morning and let it freeze. She warns this could take all day, but nevertheless, the TikToker recommends placing the jug in front of a fan to create a much-needed cool breeze.

She advises: "Put it on a separate little stand in front of a fan and let the cool air drift in - phew!"

The video, 'Make your own air conditioning', has attracted 1.4 million views and over 42,400 likes.

Of the 541 comments its received, several users commented to share how they would tweak this heatwave hack.

"Also place it in a bowl so that you don't end up with a huge puddle on the floor/surface," wrote one person.

Another said: "I've seen people saying if you put it behind the fan it works better as fans bring the air from behind."

To this comment, Charlotte replied: "I find it's better to just get blasting direct but you will need a towel to soak it all up as it melts the frozen water quite quickly."

"Brilliant! Thank you. Menopausal and covid positive… couldn’t have seen this at a better time," wrote another viewer who added laughing emojis.

Have you tried this hack? What hacks do you have to beat the heat? Let us know in the comments.
