BENGALURU: A 55-year-old homemaker died by suicide at her home on Thimmaiah Road, Bharathinagar, on Tuesday. G Jayalakshmi’s son Harish Kumar alleged his mother hanged herself due to harassment by her friends over financial issues.

Kumar told police his mother’s friend Merina and her relatives, Mery Stella and Appu, had borrowed Rs 9 lakh from her. “She asked her friends to return the money. The trio promised to do so by August 16, but didn’t. Upset, my mother hanged herself the next day,” Kumar’s complaint read. The trio was booked for abetment to suicide.

Undertrial dies in hospital

A 25-year-old undertrial facing over 34 criminal cases died in Victoria hospital of suspected health-related issues. Gajendra was arrested on August 17 for robbing a woman of gold near her house in Chandra Layout. In July, he and his aide Mudasir were booked for robbery and theft in Girinagar. Cops had then arrested Mudasir, while Gajendra escaped. On August 17, police traced Gajendra to a building in Chandra Layout. He jumped from the second floor but fractured his leg. “After treatment, we produced him in court and he was sent to judicial custody. The same night, he complained of uneasiness and was shifted to hospital. On Wednesday evening, he died,” a police officer said, adding action will be taken based on the postmortem report.
