Woman drove to her drink-drive court hearing - then gets banned from the roads

A woman who drove her car dangerously while over the drink drive limit has been banned.

Amanda McVinnie, of Rectory Lane, Standish, Wigan, had to arrange for her car to be picked up from Bolton Crown Court after driving to her plea hearing.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.

It follows an incident on April 15, in which McVinnie admitted to driving her Dacia Logan MCV car on Wessex Close in a dangerous manner.

She also admitted to having 50mcgs of alcohol per 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35.

McVinnie denied a further charge of causing criminal damage but prosecution barrister David Lees said that the Crown would seek a trial for this count.

Defending, Neil Ronan indicated that there would be a medical report required before sentencing, along with a pre-sentence report.

Mr Ronan also told the court that McVinnie had driven to her hearing.

Judge John Potter disqualified McVinnie from driving and adjourned for sentencing on July 15.

He also warned her against driving home from the court.

Judge Potter said: "Because you pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol, I'm obliged to disqualify you from driving immediately.

"I appreciate you may have driven here but I'm afraid somebody else will have to move your car for you.

"Don't be tempted to get in your car or drive off.

"You may or may not be aware that people that do that sometimes appear on the front page of the local newspapers, something I'm sure you'd wish to avoid."
