Woman drives up to hospital valet with dead 11-year-old daughter, pulls knife on staff, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. _ A woman drove up to the valet station of the Winnie Palmer Hospital Sunday morning with her dead 11-year-old daughter in her vehicle, and then pulled a knife on staff members, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Hospital security told authorities that Rosa Alcides Rivera, 28, arrived about 10:45 a.m. seeking medical attention for her daughter, Aleyda Rivera, the sheriff's office said. Medical staff examined Aleyda and determined that she was dead of multiple stab wounds.

Orlando police officers initially responded to the hospital for women and babies at 83 W. Miller Street.

Rosa Alcides Rivera, who was described by police as "argumentative" with hospital staff, "became combative and produced a knife," said department spokesman Lt. Diego Toruno.

Hospital security and police officers detained her without further incident, Toruno said.

Investigators are working to determine where the stabbing occurred in unincorporated Orange County. Rosa Alcides Rivera was arrested at the scene and charges are pending, the sheriff's office said.
