Woman driven 'nuts' by neighbours constantly walking on lawn

A woman has said her neighbours are ‘driving her nuts’ by walking over her front lawn - despite being asked to stop.

The woman, who shared her story anonymously on Mumsnet’s Am I Being Unreasonable (AIBU) forum, says she and her partner have asked the neighbours to stop, but the problem keeps happening. She even said they’re trying to move house because of it.

Asking for advice on what to do, the woman wrote: “Our neighbours keep walking over our lawn and drive. Our neighbours to the left have stopped doing this once we spoke to them but currently our neighbours to the right keep doing this. We've been having problems with them as they are having building work done and have had to stop their builders parking on our drive.

“We don't have a car so they've previously asked to park on our drive but we've said no. They are now constantly walking over our lawn. Our living room over looks the lawn so we see it constantly it's driving us nuts.

“We've asked them to stop. What can we do about this? We're actually trying to move due to the neighbours”.

The post received hundreds of responses, with many in support of the woman needing to take an extra step in order to keep her garden private. Many suggested deterrents including fences and sprinklers to make her neighbours stop. Others, however, suggested she was the “mean, unreasonable neighbour”.

Beneath the post, one person said: “Fence. Or automatic sprinklers?” and a second wrote: “I'd do the sprinkler thing. If they get shitty about getting wet, you are watering the lawn and didn't expect random people to be wandering about on your garden uninvited. Rude f******.”

A third response said: “Hedge. A spiky one” while a fourth person added: “That’s just rude unless you have massive 100 metre lawn they can just walk to pavement and across surely. I’m afraid sprinkles is the only way to go. Even on camp sites it’s considered rude walk straight through other campers pitches”.

Another joked: “Cover the lawn in rakes like a comedy sketch. Put up a sign that says ‘Danger, Landmines’. Giant paddling pool on your grass or a tent”.

Other responses claimed the woman was in the wrong for complaining about the situation, adding that it's “not a big problem”. One said: “I'm clearly on my own here, but I'm not sure this would bother me.” and a second wrote: “Yabu, it's only temporary and not a big problem (not even a little one to most people)”.

A third added: “Honestly why do you care? Just leave it. And also why wouldn't you let them use your drive if you have no car? You sound like the mean, unreasonable neighbour!”
