Woman dragged by her hair from car during 'terrifying' hijacking in South Belfast

A woman was dragged by her hair from a car during a hijacking in South Belfast with the vehicle later being found on fire.

Police are appealing for information following the incident which took place on Stewart Street in the Market area at around midday on Friday, June 9.

It has been reported that a man flagged down a woman who was driving a cream coloured Renault Captur with a black roof, and indicated that there was a problem with the car.

However once the driver pulled over she was dragged from the vehicle by her hair by the man and the two passengers, another female and a young child, were told to get out.

The man then drove the vehicle in the direction of the Ormeau Road, with it being found a short time later on fire in Raphael Street.

The man has been described as being 5’6” tall, of stocky build and was wearing a dark coloured hooded top with the hood up, black trousers and white trainers.

Detective Sergeant David Kitchen said: “This was a terrifying experience for this woman and her passengers. We have been conducting enquiries in the area and would appeal to anyone with any information or who captured dash-cam footage which could be of assistance to our investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 870 09/06/23.
