Woman dragged along Rome metro platform by train

The woman was trying to leave the train at the last minute when her bag became caught in the doors as they closed.

A woman has been taken to hospital with broken bones after she was dragged along a metro platform in Rome by a train when her bag was caught in a closing door.

The woman from Belarus was trying to leave the train at the last minute when her bag became caught.

Dramatic video footage shows the woman being dragged along and bystanders rushing to try and stop the train and free her from the door.

Italian news outlets reported passengers on board tried unsuccessfully to activate emergency brakes, and that the woman was later taken to intensive care.

The train driver was caught on camera eating before driving away but has denied being reckless, and said he followed protocol and checked his mirror twice before leaving.

He is currently under investigation, but authorities have not taken disciplinary action against him.
