Woman divides TikTok after giving tour of 'tiny' studio apartment that costs £780 a month to rent

A woman has caused a debate amongst TikTok viewers after taking to the social media site to give a tour of her apartment. The tenant shared a video inside her small studio flat in north west London after explaining that she was now moving out.

The young woman admitted that she was going to be 'transparent' as she revealed the exact amount she pays each month for rent, bills and council tax - but her admission caused a divide amongst many TikTok users.

The renter revealed that she pays £780 per month for her rent, which includes water and heating, £50 a month for her electricity and £205 per month for her council tax.

The three-minute long video captioned 'gonna miss this place' has since been viewed by 183,000 TikTok viewers, with some who are less than impressed by how much the woman is paying to live in the small space.

Hundreds of viewers reacted to the house tour video which shows the studio flat with a cramped kitchen which requires the drying rack to be on top of the extractor fan and her microwave to sit on top of the shelves, reports MyLondon.

The small flat also had limited storage space and the kitchen bin was only a few feet from the woman's bed, but it was the cost of council tax costs that ruffled a lot of people's feathers.

While the average amount of council tax paid in the UK is around £1,493 per year or around £124 a month, the TikTok user said that she is paying significantly more. When adding up how much she pays monthly it works out to around £2,460 a year.

One person commented: "£205 on council tax for A STUDIO??? What," while another added: "Your council tax is so high!! Mine is £90 (with 20 per cent single person discount)."

The video also sparked a debate in the comments about whether or not the apartment was a 'good deal' for those living in London.

One TikTok user wrote: "My mortgage for my 3 bed house is less than that! London is ridiculous - why do people stand for these prices."

Another added: "That’s an en-suite bedroom with a kitchenette, why does anyone think this is an acceptable way to live!!"

But others who rent in London had conflicting views and thought that it was a good price.

One viewer wrote: "This is so good for London! Nowadays studios start at 1.2k for this kind of space and heating excluded!".

Another added: "£705pm for an entire studio? Where did you find somewhere so cheap in London?".

A third said: "A lot of people don’t understand this is cheap for north London especially with water and heating included."
